Silver, Whole Blood
Also known as: SILVER BLD
Use
This test is used for quantifying silver levels in whole blood. It is particularly useful for detecting elevated silver concentrations, which may be indicative of environmental exposure or therapeutic use of silver-containing products. Silver toxicity is rare but can occur, and monitoring silver levels can help in the management and diagnosis of such conditions.
Special Instructions
Specimens must be protected from light and transported in their original collection tube, foil-wrapped. Elevated results should be verified by testing another specimen in a trace metal-free container to rule out environmental contamination during collection.
Limitations
The test results can be affected by environmental contamination at the time of specimen collection. Consequently, unexpected elevated results should be confirmed with a repeat test using a certified metal-free container. The test has not been cleared or approved by the US Food and Drug Administration.
