Special Stain, Reticulin
Also known as: RETIC SS
Use
This technical service performs a histochemical reticulin stain (special stain) used to demonstrate reticular fibers in tissue or cell specimens, particularly useful in anatomic pathology. It is provided as a stain-and-return service, facilitating morphologic evaluation without interpretive reporting.
Special Instructions
Anatomic Pathology Test Request Form (#32960) is recommended for ordering. Electronic request submission is preferred, though paper requisition may be used if electronic ordering is unavailable. Use ARUP supply #47808 tissue transport kit. Refer to histochemical stain listing for selection guidance.
Limitations
Specimens must be representative and not depleted; submissions with nonrepresentative tissues or depleted specimens are unacceptable. Frozen specimens are unacceptable. Slides or blocks must be adequately fixed and protected from excessive heat. The test does not include interpretive service—only technical staining.
