Special Stain, Trichrome
Also known as: TRI SS
Use
Trichrome special stain is utilized in histopathology to differentiate collagen and related tissue components (e.g., collagen, fibrin) and to provide additional morphological detail to support diagnostic interpretation. It is offered as a stain-and-return technical service, enhancing evaluation of tissue fibrosis or muscular/collagen architecture.
Special Instructions
Submit with ARUP Anatomic Pathology Test Request Form (#32960) or via electronic request. Use ARUP supply #47808 Tissue Transport Kit for submission of paraffin block or two unstained (3–5 μm) positively charged slides. Protect slides from heat, transport at room temperature or refrigerated, using cooled container during summer months.
Limitations
Only tissue or cells embedded in paraffin blocks or cellblocks are acceptable; frozen specimens are unacceptable. Unacceptable conditions include nonrepresentative tissue type and depleted specimens. This service is technical only (stain and return), with no interpretive reporting provided by ARUP.
