Staphylococcus Surveillance Culture
Also known as: MC STAPH
Use
The Staphylococcus Surveillance Culture test is used to identify the colonization of Staphylococcus aureus, particularly to detect methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). This is essential for infection control and prevention, particularly in healthcare and community settings, by identifying carriers who may be at risk of spreading the infection.
Special Instructions
Specimen source is preferred when processing specimens. Susceptibility tests are billed separately from the culture. For better test accuracy, ensure that specimens are adequately preserved and submitted in the proper condition.
Limitations
The test is not acceptable on dry specimens, and proper specimen handling is critical to avoid rejection. Additionally, refrigerated and frozen conditions are unacceptable for the sterile container specimens, which may lead to false results or non-viability of the culture.
