Sulfonylurea Hypoglycemia Panel, Quantitative, Urine
Also known as: SULFON UR
Use
The Sulfonylurea Hypoglycemia Panel is used to determine if the cause of hypoglycemia is due to the exposure to sulfonylurea hypoglycemic drugs. These drugs are commonly used in the treatment of diabetes, and assessing their presence can aid in diagnosing drug-induced hypoglycemia.
Special Instructions
It is important to note that separate specimens must be submitted if additional tests are ordered, as the test is not performed at ARUP laboratories. Serum or plasma is the preferred specimen; refer to the Hypoglycemia Panel (Sulfonylureas) for serum or plasma.
Limitations
The test does not provide quantitative reference intervals, and the detection of drugs is subject to sensitivity limits inherent to the liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry methodology. False negatives may occur if the specimen is not appropriately handled or stored. It is also limited to detecting the specific drugs listed and cannot distinguish between other causes of hypoglycemia.
