Synthetic Cannabinoid Metabolites, Qualitative, Urine
Also known as: SYN CAN U
Use
This test is designed to qualitatively detect the presence of synthetic cannabinoid metabolites in urine. It is particularly useful for assessing exposure to synthetic cannabinoids, which are frequently abused due to their psychoactive effects. Detection can aid in diagnosis and treatment of intoxication or overdose in patients who have potentially used these substances.
Special Instructions
The test requires a separate specimen submission when multiple tests are ordered since it is not performed at ARUP. Collect a random urine sample in a standard transport tube without any additives or preservatives. This specimen must be kept refrigerated, but room temperature or frozen states are acceptable as well.
Limitations
The test is qualitative and will not provide quantitative levels of synthetic cannabinoids present. There are known interferences from compounds such as 4-carboxy-AMB-PINACA and others which may affect the identity or quantity of the results. It is important to consider these potential interferences when interpreting the results.
