Teichoic Acid Antibodies
Also known as: TEICHOIC
Use
The Teichoic Acid Antibodies test aids in the diagnosis of staphylococcal disease, specifically by detecting the presence of teichoic acid antibodies which may indicate a deep-seated Staphylococcus aureus infection. A titer of 1:2 or greater suggests a possible infection, providing valuable information for diagnosing staphylococcal infections, especially when deeply embedded within tissues.
Special Instructions
Collect serum using a serum separator tube. After collection, separate serum from cells as soon as possible or within 2 hours. Transfer a minimum of 0.4 mL serum to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube. Ensure proper labeling and documentation before sending to the laboratory.
Limitations
The test may not detect low levels of antibodies or early-stage infections. The presence of antibodies does not always correlate with an active infection since past infections or certain non-infectious conditions might also cause elevated titers. The test is not suitable for plasma samples and might produce false negatives if stability conditions are not met.
