Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) Metabolite, Umbilical Cord Tissue, Qualitative
Also known as: THC QQQ CD
Use
This test is used to detect and document fetal exposure to THC during approximately the last trimester of a full-term pregnancy. It detects a common metabolite of THC, which may be present in cannabis products. It is specifically designed for medical purposes and is not valid for forensic use.
Special Instructions
The test requires at least 8 inches of umbilical cord, approximately the width of a sheet of paper. It is important to drain and discard any blood, rinse the exterior with normal saline or water, pat it dry, and transport in a routine urine collection cup or a Security Kit.
Limitations
This test does not distinguish between the delta-8 and delta-9 forms of THC or their metabolites. The pattern and frequency of drug(s) used by the mother cannot be determined by this test. A negative result does not exclude the possibility that a mother used drugs during pregnancy. Detection depends on maternal drug use, drug stability, characteristics of drug deposition in umbilical cord tissue, and the analytical method's performance. Detection does not imply impairment and may not affect infant outcomes.
