Trypsin, Serum
Also known as: TRY
Use
The Trypsin, Serum test is used to diagnose and monitor pancreatitis. Elevated trypsin concentrations are associated with acute pancreatitis, while levels in chronic pancreatitis may vary and can be below, within, or above the reference range. This test helps correlate these levels with clinical symptoms and other diagnostic data but is not suitable for diagnosing pancreatic carcinoma. Results may vary based on different methods or kits, so consistent test usage is recommended for reliable monitoring.
Special Instructions
Separate serum from cells as soon as possible, ideally within 2 hours of collection, and store the sample in a frozen state to ensure best test results. Use standard ARUP transport tubes for specimen transfer.
Limitations
Trypsin concentrations are not diagnostic for pancreatic cancer. Additionally, variability in results may occur if different assay methods or kits are used interchangeably. Therefore, results should always be interpreted in the context of clinical presentation and other diagnostic results to ensure accurate diagnosis of pancreatitis.
