Uric Acid, Body Fluid
Also known as: URIC-FL
Use
Aids in the diagnosis of gout through analysis of synovial fluid and other body fluids. Uric acid levels in fluid samples can help determine if high levels of urate crystals are present, commonly associated with gout and frequent joint inflammation. The test is suitable for fluid samples such as synovial, peritoneal/ascites, and pleural fluids.
Special Instructions
It is essential to provide the specimen source since specific body fluids are required. Centrifuge the fluid sample to eliminate any cellular material before transferring it to the ARUP standard transport tube. Adhere to storage and transport conditions to ensure sample integrity.
Limitations
The test is limited by the types of body fluid accepted—only synovial, peritoneal/ascites, and pleural fluids are appropriate for analysis. Highly viscous specimens cannot be aspirated by the instrument and are therefore unacceptable. Accurate interpretation requires an understanding of the reference ranges that vary between fluid types and conditions.
