Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin)
Also known as: VITA B2
Use
Vitamin B2, also known as Riboflavin, is an essential nutrient that plays a critical role in energy production and the metabolism of fats, carbohydrates, and proteins. This test is used for the nutritional assessment of vitamin B2 status. A deficiency in vitamin B2 can lead to various health issues such as ariboflavinosis, characterized by sore throat, swelling of mucous membranes, anemia, and skin disorders. Monitoring vitamin B2 levels can help in assessing nutritional intake and diagnosing potential deficiencies.
Special Instructions
Protect plasma samples from light during storage and shipment. After collection, separate the plasma from cells within one hour and transfer 1 mL of plasma to an ARUP amber transport tube, maintaining a minimum volume of 0.5 mL. If multiple tests are ordered, ensure that separate light-protected specimens are submitted.
Limitations
The test results are specific to plasma and cannot be accurately assessed using serum, whole blood, or other body fluids. The presence of EDTA or lipemic samples may interfere with the accuracy of the results. The test is not cleared or approved by the US Food and Drug Administration. It is developed by ARUP Laboratories under CLIA compliance, intended specifically for clinical purposes.
