Zika Virus by PCR, Urine
Also known as: ZIKAPCR U
Use
Zika Virus by PCR is a real-time RT-PCR test intended for the qualitative detection of Zika virus RNA from individuals meeting CDC Zika virus clinical criteria and/or CDC Zika virus epidemiological criteria. The test is designed to identify Zika virus infection in individuals with symptoms associated with the virus and those who have resided in or traveled to areas with active Zika transmission. Diagnostic testing should align with current CDC guidance.
Special Instructions
If serologic testing is needed as a follow-up to PCR, contact ARUP client services to order Zika Virus IgM Antibody Capture (MAC), by ELISA (ARUP test code 2013942). Additional charges apply. Specimen source required.
Limitations
A negative result does not rule out the presence of PCR inhibitors in the patient specimen or assay specific nucleic acid in concentrations below the detection level of the assay. The test should be performed only on individuals meeting CDC criteria for Zika virus testing.
