Liquid Trace Hematology Panel
Use
The Liquid Trace Hematology Panel is designed to assess 302 DNA genes and over 1600 RNA genes associated with hematologic neoplasms, including but not limited to acute myeloid leukemia, multiple myeloma, and VEXAS syndrome. Patients undergoing this test are generally those diagnosed with hematological malignancies, where detection of somatic mutations can provide crucial information for diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment monitoring. The specificity of this panel allows oncologists to make well-informed decisions based on the patient’s genetic profile, ensuring that therapies are aligned with the underlying genetic alterations present in the cancer.
Special Instructions
It is important that samples reach the laboratory within 72 hours for optimal results. Any samples received beyond this timeframe may only yield DNA results, limiting the panel's efficacy. Additionally, clear instructions should be followed for sample collection and shipping to ensure the integrity of the specimen upon arrival at the laboratory.
Limitations
The Liquid Trace Hematology Panel may have limitations in sensitivity for low tumor burden cases, affecting the detection of low-frequency mutations in circulating cell-free DNA/RNA. Environmental and technical factors can also obscure results, and false negatives may occur, especially in non-tumor bearing samples. Additionally, while the panel is comprehensive, it does not include all known mutations, and there is a risk of unreported novel variants that could influence treatment decisions. It is paramount to interpret results in conjunction with clinical findings and other diagnostic assays.
