Custom Slice – Pulmonary Fibrosis
Use
This Custom Slice test allows providers to specify a custom gene list for targeted analysis, enabling focused diagnostic evaluation in cases of pulmonary fibrosis where known gene involvement is suspected. It is particularly appropriate for patients with oligogenic phenotypes or clear single-gene etiologies not covered by existing clinical panels. The analysis is limited to the requested genes; incidental ACMG secondary findings are not reported unless they are included in the submitted list.
Special Instructions
Ordering requires submission of a gene list via the online Slice Tool. GeneDx reviews the submission within 3 business days and provides a tracking number that must accompany the sample. The approved gene list limits the analysis. Providers are responsible for gene selection. Reusable Custom Slice requisition forms are provided with approval for non-portal orders.
Limitations
Only variants in the specified genes are analyzed and reported. Exome data is generated but analysis is restricted to the custom gene list. ACMG secondary findings outside the list are not evaluated or reported. Family member samples are not analyzed for Simple Slice; only proband analysis is performed. Parental samples may be included only if using Slice Xpanded®, which is a different test format.
