Suggested Custom Slice — Inflammatory Bowel Disease
Use
This custom Slice test enables exome-based analysis limited to a patient- or provider-specified gene list for inflammatory bowel disease, allowing targeted investigation when a defined oligogenic or single-gene phenotype is suspected. It leverages exome sequencing data focused on IBD-relevant genes for diagnostic insight while avoiding broad secondary findings.
Special Instructions
This test is intended for patients who have previously undergone full exome sequencing at GeneDx; analysis is restricted to the requested genes only. GeneDx recommends waiting at least one year from the prior analysis before ordering a reanalysis. Ordering providers are responsible for specifying the gene list; ordering options include Single Gene Slice (TG70), Multi‑Gene Slice (706), or Slice Xpanded® (>150 genes, J757).
Limitations
Analysis is limited to genes specified by the ordering provider; ACMG secondary findings are not reported unless the genes are included in the custom list. Smaller deletions/duplications below three exons may not be reliably detected via NGS-CNV. The provider must accurately select relevant genes—GeneDx captures exome data but only analyzes the specified targets.
