Acetylcholine Receptor (AChR)-blocking Antibodies
Also known as: AChR-blocking Antibodies, ACRAB, Anti-AChR Antibody, Myasthenia Gravis Antibody
Use
Measurement of Acetylcholine Receptor (AChR)-blocking Antibodies in serum
Special Instructions
No isotopes should be administered 24 hours prior to venipuncture when collecting the specimen. It is important to note that there should be sufficient volume for both initial and any potential repeat testing.
Limitations
This test has not been cleared or approved by the Food and Drug Administration. In rare cases, AChR antibodies may be present in other autoimmune disorders or thymoma without MG. Up to 10 percent of MG patients may test negative for AChR antibodies. Additionally, the presence of AChR antibodies does not always correlate with the severity of MG symptoms. Instances of purely ocular involvement often have lower sensitivity in detection.
