Apo E Genotyping: Cardiovascular Risk
Use
Evaluate individuals with elevated cholesterol and triglycerides for the E2/E2 genotype associated with type III hyperlipoproteinemia. Aid in the diagnosis of hyperlipoproteinemia.
Special Instructions
Not provided.
Limitations
The assay is validated only for APOE E2, E3, and E4 alleles. Rare genotypes such as E1/E1, E1/E2, and E1/E3 result in failed results; E2/E4 and E1/E3 cannot be distinguished. Testing does not detect rare pathogenic variants elsewhere in the genome. Potential causes of false positives or negatives include genetic variants, transfusions, bone marrow transplant, mosaicism, technical errors, sample mislabeling, or incorrect family relationship representation.
