Carbamazepine Sensitivity HLA Associations
Also known as: Carbamazepine Sensitivity, HLA A*3101, HLA A*31:01, HLA A3101, HLA B*1502
Use
To avoid possible adverse reactions, this test has been recommended for patients who may be prescribed Carbamazepine and oxcarbazepine. Two HLA alleles are associated with adverse reactions to these drugs. The alleles are HLA B*15:02, which is more common in individuals of Asian descent, and HLA A*31:01, which is more common in individuals of European descent. This test evaluates the presence or absence of these alleles.
Special Instructions
For collection instructions or to obtain the buccal swab kit, please telephone 800-533-1037. If you have questions, please call 800-533-1037 (HLA customer service) for assistance in selecting the proper HLA test for the patient.
Limitations
A negative test result does not rule out an adverse reaction to Carbamazepine and oxcarbazepine. Even with appropriate precautions, an occasional specimen may not be satisfactory for testing, in which case an additional specimen should be collected for retesting. This test was developed and its performance characteristics determined by Labcorp. It has not been cleared or approved by the Food and Drug Administration.
