Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae Rectal Screen Culture
Use
Detect the presence of carbapenem-resistant or carbapenemase-producing Klebsiella spp and E coli from rectal specimens from patients in hospitals or long-term nursing care environments.
Special Instructions
This test is specifically intended for the detection of carbapenem-resistant or carbapenemase-producing Klebsiella spp and E coli from rectal swabs. For culture and isolation of other potential pathogens, a different test such as a stool culture should be ordered.
Limitations
Patients may be colonized with carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae or carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae at concentrations not detectable by this method. It is important to consider that the method may not detect low levels of colonization, leading to false-negative results in some cases.
