Carbohydrate-deficient Transferrin (CDT), Adult
Also known as: Diasialotransferrin, Transferrin Isoforms
Use
An indicator of chronic alcohol abuse
Special Instructions
This test is designed to assess alcohol abuse and is not recommended for evaluating congenital disorders like CDG syndrome. Healthcare providers should consult LabCorp customer service for alternative tests tailored to such conditions.
Limitations
The CDT test is not appropriate for evaluating congenital disorders of glycosylation (CDG syndrome), genetic variants of transferrin, monoclonal components, or cases involving high polyclonal increases. It is also not suitable for assessing liver injuries (such as cirrhosis due to chronic alcohol abuse or end-stage liver disease). Furthermore, the test results are not specific for medico-legal purposes.
