Collagen-binding Activity (CBA) Profile
Also known as: vWF Collagen Binding Activity
Use
Screen for the presence of type II von Willebrand disease in plasma6
Special Instructions
For accuracy in results, ensure proper collection practices: Blood should be collected in a blue-top tube with 3.2% buffered sodium citrate. Use double centrifugation technique and avoid contamination. Ensure specimens are transported properly as delays can affect the turnaround time.
Limitations
vWF is an acute phase reactant protein and levels may be transiently increased in some individuals with mild von Willebrand disease after adrenergic stimulation or certain drug therapies like DDAVP or estrogen. This procedure might be considered investigational by Medicare and other carriers and may not be payable as a covered benefit.

Collection Instructions
Citrated plasma samples should be collected by double centrifugation. Ensure blood is collected in a blue-top tube containing 3.2% buffered sodium citrate. Immediate gentle inversion is necessary for anticoagulant mixing. No discard tube needed unless using a winged device. Centrifuge for 10 minutes, remove two-thirds of plasma without disturbing cells, transfer to plastic tube, centrifuge again, and transfer clear plasma to Labcorp PP transpak frozen tube.
Storage Instructions
Freeze; four freeze/thaw cycles are acceptable. Stable refrigerated for four hours.
Causes for Rejection
Lipemia; icteric specimen; hemolysis; clotted specimen; specimen contaminated with heparin
