Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (CAH) Pediatric Profile Six−Comprehensive Screen (Endocrine Sciences)
Use
The Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (CAH) Pediatric Profile Six is a comprehensive screen designed to evaluate adrenal function in pediatric patients. It is primarily used for diagnosing and managing CAH, a genetic disorder affecting steroid hormone production. By measuring specific hormones in the serum, the profile helps detect enzyme deficiencies involved in CAH, supporting early diagnosis and treatment decisions to manage symptoms and prevent complications.
Special Instructions
Serum must be separated from cells within 45 minutes of venipuncture. Use a red-top tube only; gel-barrier tubes are not suitable. Submit separate frozen specimens for each test requested to avoid delays, especially when multiple tests are ordered.
Limitations
The test requires precise specimen handling to ensure accuracy. Minimum volume requirements cannot accommodate repeat testing, which may impact result confirmation if retesting is necessary. The long turnaround time entails planning for timely follow-up actions based on results, considering variability in testing schedules and potential need for confirmatory assays.
