Culture of Dialysis Water
Use
The Culture of Dialysis Water test is used to detect and quantify bacteria present in water used for the preparation of dialysate. Ensuring the sterility and low bacterial content in dialysate is crucial for patient safety during dialysis treatment, as contamination can lead to infections and other complications.
Special Instructions
It's critical to collect the specimen in a sterile container and ensure refrigerated transport to maintain the integrity of the sample.
Limitations
The test is limited by the volume of water provided. Less than 50 mL, incorrect transport conditions, or delayed processing beyond 24 hours may lead to sample rejection. The test relies on the heterotrophic plate count culture method, which may not detect all pathogenic organisms.
