Enterovirus, Real-time PCR
Also known as: Coxsackie, Enterovirus RT-PCR (Real-time PCR)
Use
This assay is intended to be used as an aid in the diagnosis of enteroviral infections.
Special Instructions
The test has not been cleared or approved by the FDA; however, the FDA has determined that clearance is not necessary. Test results should be interpreted alongside clinical observations and other laboratory data. This test is performed using Real-time reverse transcriptase PCR, which provides accurate results in a short turnaround time.
Limitations
Weak cross-reactivity has been observed with some strains of rhinovirus present in respiratory samples, potentially leading to false-positive results. Therefore, the presence of enterovirus RNA should be interpreted with caution, especially in the context of clinical presentation and other laboratory findings.
