Fire Ant (Invicta)
Use
The Fire Ant (Invicta) test is used to measure the level of specific Immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies present in the serum of patients who may be allergic to fire ants. This test is beneficial in diagnosing fire ant allergies and can help guide appropriate treatment strategies. By identifying specific IgE levels, healthcare providers can assess the sensitization status of patients towards fire ant venom and manage allergic reactions effectively.
Special Instructions
Ensure that a serum sample is obtained using either a red-top tube or gel-barrier tube. Proper storage and handling of the specimen are crucial to maintaining sample integrity for accurate results. The test is processed using Thermo Fisher ImmunoCAP® technology, a reliable method for measuring allergen-specific IgE levels. Additional time may be required for confirmatory or reflex testing.
Limitations
This test specifically evaluates IgE-mediated allergic responses to the venom of the fire ant species known as Invicta. It does not diagnose other allergies or determine the severity of the allergic reaction beyond IgE presence. Results should be interpreted in conjunction with the patient's clinical history and other diagnostic tests. Factors such as improper specimen handling, storage conditions, and other pre-analytical variables can impact results. Patients on anti-IgE therapy may exhibit undetectable IgE levels.
