Gastrin, Three Specimens
Use
This panel is used to assess gastrin levels through a series of serum samples collected at multiple time points. The test helps in evaluating conditions related to gastrin levels, such as gastrinoma, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and other disorders associated with increased gastrin production. Multiple specimens are collected to observe changes in gastrin levels after an initial baseline measurement and subsequent stimulation, providing a comprehensive view of the patient's gastrin levels over a period.
Special Instructions
This is a series panel requiring multiple specimen collection at specified intervals. Ensure the clinician is contacted to determine the reason for the series order. Patients should discontinue any biotin supplement intake at least 72 hours prior to collection to avoid interference with the test results. Sequential sampling instructions should be followed carefully for accurate results.
Limitations
The test may exhibit interference when samples are collected from patients consuming high doses of biotin. Biotin, a known interfering agent, can lead to inaccurate test outcomes. Therefore, it is crucial to inquire about and, if necessary, advise discontinuation of biotin supplementation before sample collection. This test is not suitable for patients who have not undergone the specified preparatory steps or those not receiving the prescribed treatment post-initial sample collection. Proper consultation with the clinician is necessary before proceeding with this panel.
