Gastrin, Two Specimens
Use
The Gastrin, Two Specimens test is used to detect abnormalities in gastrin levels, which can help diagnose disorders such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and other conditions associated with excess gastric acid production.
Special Instructions
Please refer to the directions for Sequential Sampling. This panel is a series panel requiring multiple tubes to be drawn at multiple time points. It is used to collect an initial tube (baseline) and then treat the patient with a substance like a drug or glucola, followed by additional collections after administration. It is important to ensure that patients cease biotin supplements at least 72 hours prior to sample collection to prevent interference with test results.
Limitations
The test may exhibit interference when the sample is collected from an individual consuming a high dose of biotin. The known limitation includes potential inaccuracies if the testing protocol is not followed correctly, particularly the sequential sampling and timing of subsequent collections.
