Gynecologic Pap Test, Liquid-based Preparation
Use
The Gynecologic Pap Test, using liquid-based preparation, is intended for cervical cancer screening. It focuses on identifying abnormal or atypical cells in cervical samples, enabling early intervention and management of cervical abnormalities. By using the ThinPrep® Pap test system or the TriPath SurePath® Pap test system, healthcare providers can achieve increased diagnostic accuracy for cellular abnormalities, enhancing the prevention and early treatment of cervical cancer.
Special Instructions
Include important clinical information such as date of birth, social security number, previous malignancy, drug therapy, radiation therapy, last menstrual period, postmenopausal status, surgical biopsies, exogenous hormones, abnormal vaginal bleeding, abnormal Pap results, and presence of an IUD on the cytology test request form. Additional charges apply for cases referred to a pathologist as per CLIA criteria.
Limitations
The test may yield unsatisfactory results if there is failure to obtain an adequate ectocervical, endocervical, or vaginal cell population. Excessive use of lubricating jelly on the vaginal speculum can interfere with the cytologic examination. Samples that are improperly labeled, too old, or submitted in an expired or frozen vial are subject to rejection.
