Gynecologic Pap Test, Liquid-based Preparation and Chlamydia/Gonococcus, NAA
Use
Diagnose primary or metastatic neoplasmas; detect Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae
Special Instructions
Include patient's name, date of birth, Social Security number, previous malignancy, drug therapy, radiation therapy, last menstrual period (LMP), postmenopausal patient (PMP), surgery, exogenous hormones, abnormal vaginal bleeding, abnormal Pap results, IUD, and other pertinent clinical information on the cytology request form. In certain cases, Pap tests will be referred for pathologist review according to CLIA established criteria.
Limitations
Failure to obtain adequate ectocervical, endocervical, or vaginal cell populations can lead to suboptimal evaluation. Excessive use of lubricating jelly on the vaginal speculum may interfere with cytologic examination and result in unsatisfactory Pap results. Testing for Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae requires specific processing procedures and cannot be added after specimen submission. Furthermore, any time a transport device for molecular testing is processed, the chance of cross-specimen contamination increases. Proper use of Aptima transports can help minimize this risk.
