Gynecologic Pap Test, Liquid-based Preparation and Chlamydia trachomatis, NAA
Also known as: Chlamydia trachomatis, Aptima® TMA, Liquid-based Pap, Out-of-the-vial Testing
Use
Diagnose primary or metastatic neoplasma; detect Chlamydia trachomatis
Special Instructions
The cytology request form should include important patient information such as date of birth, Social Security number, previous malignancy, drug therapy, radiation therapy, last menstrual period, postmenopausal status, surgeries, hormone use, abnormal bleeding, abnormal Pap history, and use of IUDs.
Limitations
An inadequate collection of ectocervical, endocervical, or vaginal cell populations can compromise the evaluation. Using excessive lubricating jelly on the vaginal speculum may interfere with cytological examination, leading to unsatisfactory results. Testing for Chlamydia trachomatis requires specific processing of the cytology specimen; it cannot be added after specimen submission. Cross-specimen contamination is a risk when using transport devices for molecular testing; however, Aptima® transports help minimize this risk by directly interfacing with analyzers.
