Gynecologic Pap Test, Liquid-based Preparation With Maturation Index
Also known as: Maturation Index With Pap Test
Use
The Gynecologic Pap Test, utilizing liquid-based preparation, is a screening test designed to aid in the detection of premalignant and malignant conditions of the uterine cervix. The inclusion of the maturation index allows for additional assessment of hormonal status and cellular changes, aiding in the determination of potential disorders. Although primarily a screening tool, this test is crucial in the early detection of cervical cancer and other significant genital health issues.
Special Instructions
Not provided.
Limitations
The test has limitations in that a failure to obtain a satisfactory vaginal cell population renders the specimen unsatisfactory for evaluation. The use of excessive lubricating jelly on the vaginal speculum compromises the cytologic examination. Both false-positive and false-negative reports can occur, emphasising its role as a screening rather than diagnostic tool.
