Helicobacter pylori Stool Antigen
Also known as: Campylobacter pylori, Campylobacter From Stomach, H pylori Stool Antigen, Culture, Helicobacter pylori
Use
This test is used to establish the presence and possible etiologic role of Helicobacter pylori in cases of chronic gastric ulcer, gastritis, duodenal ulcer, dyspepsia, etc.
Special Instructions
Antimicrobials, proton pump inhibitors, and bismuth preparations can suppress H. pylori. Ingestion of these prior to testing may result in false negatives. If negative results are obtained while the patient is ingesting these substances, a retest is advised two weeks after discontinuation. Alternatively, positive results during ingestion are considered accurate.
Limitations
The test may result in false negatives if antimicrobials, proton pump inhibitors, or bismuth preparations are ingested two weeks prior to testing. Specimens should be handled correctly to prevent false-negative results due to degraded or compromised samples.
