Hepatic Function Panel (7)
Also known as: Liver Function Panel (LFP)
Use
The Hepatic Function Panel, commonly known as the Liver Function Panel (LFP), is utilized to assess the overall health of the liver by measuring the levels of proteins, liver enzymes, and bilirubin in the blood. This panel helps in diagnosing liver conditions such as hepatitis, liver cirrhosis, and liver disease due to drugs, as well as monitoring liver function during treatments.
Special Instructions
The test can be ordered by clinicians for patients suspected of having liver dysfunction or disease. It is crucial to handle the specimen properly by separating serum or plasma from cells within 45 minutes of collection to ensure accuracy.
Limitations
This test provides a snapshot of liver function but cannot provide a complete picture of liver health. Other diagnostic tests may be needed for comprehensive assessment. False elevations can occur due to improper sample handling, and results may be influenced by medications, diet, or acute medical conditions. Repeat tests may be required for confirmation or comprehensive diagnosis.
