Use
The HBe antigen assay, in conjunction with other serological and clinical information, can be used for the determination and management of chronic hepatitis B infection. This assay should not be used for the diagnosis of acute Hepatitis B infection.
Special Instructions
This test may show interference when the sample is collected from individuals consuming high doses of biotin (vitamin B7 or B8). It is advised to ask patients about biotin supplementation and recommend stopping biotin intake at least 72 hours before sample collection.
Limitations
This assay is not FDA-approved for diagnosing acute hepatitis B infection. Performance characteristics are not established for individuals under 17 years old, pregnant women, or immunocompromised patients. This assay is not licensed for blood, plasma, and tissue donor screening.
