Histoplasma Galactomannan Antigen EIA, Urine
Also known as: Histoplasma Galactomannan Antigen EIA, Histoplasma Urinary Antigen
Use
Diagnosis of histoplasmosis based upon detection of antigen
Special Instructions
Refrigerate urine specimens immediately after collection. Use sterile containers and maintain cleanliness to avoid contamination. In cases where endemic mycoses or other fungal infections are prevalent, confirmatory testing may be necessary due to possible cross-reactivity.
Limitations
A negative result does not rule out histoplasmosis, as antigen levels may be undetectable, particularly in chronic conditions with low fungal burden. Positive results should be interpreted with caution in geographical regions where cross-reacting fungi like Blastomyces dermatitidis, Coccidioides immitis, Paracoccidioides brasiliensis, and Penicillium marneffei are endemic. Substances such as foods that stain urine, vaginal creams, various medications, and chemicals may interfere with the assay results.
