Human Immunodeficiency Virus 1 (HIV-1), Quantitative, RNA (Abbott® RealTime)
Also known as: HIV-1 Plasma Viremia, HIV-1 RNA by Real-time (RT) PCR, Quantitative, Viral Load, Abbott, Real-time
Use
Detect and quantitate HIV-1 in plasma
Special Instructions
Plasma specimens should be collected in lavender-top (EDTA), PPT™, or yellow-top (ACD-A) tubes. Ensure specimens are centrifuged and plasma is transferred to a transport tube. Specimens must be frozen and shipped on dry ice to maintain stability.
Limitations
The assay can quantitate HIV-1 RNA within a range of 20 to 10,000,000 copies/mL. Results outside this range are not quantitative. The assay does not detect HIV-2 and may not detect all HIV-1 group M subtypes or recombinants.
