Immunoglobulin A, Subclasses (1-2)
Also known as: IgA Subclasses, IgA1,2
Use
Study IgA deficiencies in patients in association with recurrent sinopulmonary infections or repeated transfusions; study IgA elevations associated with IgA myeloma
Special Instructions
Ensure to collect 2 mL of serum for the test. If multiple tests are ordered, draw a sufficient volume of blood to meet the required specimen volume for each test. Specimen should be transferred to a plastic transport tube.
Limitations
IgA subclass quantification should be considered in the context of the patient's clinical condition and history. Limitations include potential for interference by other proteins in cases of grossly elevated levels of proteins or lipids. Specimen handling and stability are also critical for accurate results. Results may vary depending on testing conditions and laboratory methods. The stability of the specimen is compromised after more than three freeze/thaw cycles, which might lead to incorrect results.
