Interleukin-10, Serum
Also known as: IL-10, IL10
Use
This test is used for the measurement of Interleukin-10 (IL-10) levels in serum.
Special Instructions
IL-10 is involved in immune suppression during allergen immunotherapy and exposure to high doses of allergens. The predominant source of IL-10 varies depending on tissue type and conditions such as acute or chronic infections. The cytokine is produced by various cells including monocytes, T cells, B cells, NK cells, macrophages, and dendritic cells.
Limitations
This test was developed by Labcorp and its performance characteristics determined by them. However, it has not been cleared or approved by the FDA. Cytokines can act over short time spans and distances at low concentrations, potentially affecting test results. IL-10's role in hyperinflammation can have varied interpretations, as it may act both protectively and pathologically in diseases such as HLH and severe COVID-19.
