Interleukin-4, Serum
Use
This test is used for the measurement of Interleukin-4 (IL-4) levels in serum.
Special Instructions
Cytokines, like IL-4, can regulate immune cell homeostasis and facilitate interactions between immune cells. IL-4 acts as a B-cell growth factor, influences TH2 cell differentiation, and is involved in immunoglobulin class switching to IgE. This cytokine's levels can help understand the immune response's status, especially in allergic inflammation.
Limitations
The test was developed by Labcorp under their specific performance characteristics but has not been cleared or approved by the FDA. Interpretation should consider that IL-4 levels can be influenced by various factors, and the test provides one aspect of the broader immune response picture. Additional comprehensive clinical evaluations may be necessary for accurate diagnosis and management.
