Ispaghula
Use
The Ispaghula test measures the level of specific IgE antibodies to ispaghula, a substance commonly used as a bulk-forming laxative. Elevated levels of IgE antibodies can indicate an allergic reaction to ispaghula. This test is helpful for patients suspected of having allergies to ispaghula, providing guidance for clinical management and dietary precautions.
Special Instructions
The test utilizes the Thermo Fisher ImmunoCAP® methodology and requires careful specimen handling to maintain stability. Red-top tube or gel-barrier tube should be used for specimen collection. Results will be affected by inappropriate specimen handling and storage conditions.
Limitations
The Ispaghula test is limited by the specificity of IgE detection and may not detect all possible allergic reactions. False positives or negatives can occur due to cross-reactivity with other allergens. The test does not quantify the clinical severity of an allergy or predict future allergic reactions. Results must be interpreted in conjunction with patient clinical history and other diagnostic tests.
