Magnesium, RBC
Use
Evaluate magnesium deficiency
Special Instructions
Ensure that the sample is collected using one of the specified containers such as a green-top, lavender-top, royal blue-top (EDTA), or tan-top lead-free tube. The sample must be centrifuged as soon as possible to separate plasma from cells, and only the RBCs should be submitted for testing. Additional time may be required for reflex or confirmatory tests.
Limitations
This test has not been cleared or approved by the Food and Drug Administration, indicating it was developed by LabCorp with its own performance characteristics. The test is suitable for assessing magnesium deficiency but does not provide information on other potential causes of hypomagnesemia. Potential limitations include interference from certain medications or medical conditions, affecting the accuracy of the test results.
