Melon
Also known as: Honeydew Melon
Use
The Melon test detects specific IgE antibodies to melon allergens, aiding in the diagnosis of melon allergies. Allergens are substances that can cause allergic reactions. ImmunoCAP technology is used to measure the levels of these IgE antibodies, helping healthcare providers confirm the presence of a food allergy to melons.
Special Instructions
This test requires a blood specimen to be collected in either a red-top tube or a gel-barrier tube. Proper specimen handling is important to ensure accurate results. It is important to follow the specimen stability guidelines to avoid degradation of the sample.
Limitations
The test is specific to melon allergens and cannot detect other types of food allergies. While a positive result indicates sensitization to melon allergens, it does not necessarily predict the severity of an allergic reaction. False positives or negatives can occur, so test results should be interpreted in the context of clinical history and other diagnostic tests. ImmunoCAP technology, while robust, may still have analytical limitations in detecting extremely low levels of IgE antibodies.
