Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) Colonization Screening Culture
Also known as: MRSA
Use
Screen for methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) colonization of patients and staff in health care settings
Special Instructions
This test is only for screening purposes and is not intended to diagnose MRSA infection or guide treatment. For comprehensive culture and susceptibility testing of potential pathogens, a broader test such as the Aerobic Bacterial Culture, General [008649] should be ordered. Proper specimen collection and transport are essential to avoid rejection issues.
Limitations
The test is limited to screening for MRSA colonization and does not diagnose active infection. It may not detect MRSA if colonization levels are low or if the bacteria are inhibited during collection. Delays in specimen transport can affect test results, and specimens outside of proper conditions may be rejected. Alternative tests should be considered for other pathogens or for comprehensive susceptibility testing.
