Mumps Antibodies, IgG
Also known as: Parotitis epidemica Antibodies
Use
This test is used to determine immunity to mumps virus.
Special Instructions
Paired sera (acute and convalescent) should be submitted on separate request forms. It is important to ensure that samples are not grossly hemolyzed, lipemic, or icteric, and do not contain visible particulate matter or gross bacterial contamination.
Limitations
The test result interpretation requires understanding that a negative result does not necessarily rule out prior exposure or vaccination failure; individuals may still be susceptible if they have not developed detectable IgG levels. Stability of the specimen is maintained for 14 days at room temperature, refrigerated, or frozen; freeze/thaw cycles are stable up to four times, indicating the robustness of the procedure over various storage conditions.
