N-Telopeptide Cross-links (NTx), Urine
Also known as: Collagen Cross-linked N-Telopeptide, N-Telopeptide, NTx Test, Osteomark®
Use
Evaluation of osteoporosis and assessment of antiresorptive therapy
Special Instructions
Values obtained with different assay methods should not be used interchangeably in serial testing; only one method should be used consistently to monitor each patient's therapy. This procedure is not intended for serial monitoring; for such purposes, test 511097 is recommended. It is also suggested to collect baseline samples before initiating therapy and subsequent samples at the same time of day for consistency.
Limitations
This test should not be used interchangeably with other biochemical markers of bone turnover or different assay methods for sequential patient monitoring. Due to the variability in results based on assay types, consistent use of a single method is recommended for reliable monitoring. Interpretation of results should be done considering the reference ranges specific to the patient population and the clinical context. Results could be influenced by non-standardized collection times and improper specimen handling or storage.
