Neopterin
Use
Measurement of neopterin in serum
Special Instructions
Neopterin measurement is applied in numerous clinical settings due to its relative stability and ease of assay. It is a surrogate marker for viral load in HIV, used to discern graft rejection risk, and applied in cardiovascular disease research for its predictive value.
Limitations
The test was developed by Labcorp and has not been cleared or approved by the FDA. Neopterin concentrations are increased in renal disease due to impaired excretion and increased production from systemic inflammation, which can affect test interpretation.
