Neurofilament Light Chain, Plasma
Use
This test is used for the measurement of the level of Neurofilament Light Chain in plasma.
Special Instructions
Patients consuming high doses of biotin should be advised to discontinue intake at least 72 hours prior to specimen collection due to potential interference with test results. It is important to inquire about biotin supplementation with patients prior to testing.
Limitations
This test has not been FDA cleared or approved and is for research purposes only. Significant variations in NfL levels can occur due to demographic factors, lifestyle, and other comorbidities, affecting interpretation. Direct comparison of results from different studies is limited due to variations in testing methodologies. The NfL level rise is not specific to any particular disease, impacting its diagnostic utility. Results should be considered with clinical information and not used as a stand-alone diagnostic tool.
