Nickel, Whole Blood
Use
Evaluate exposure to nickel
Special Instructions
Ensure that the specimen is collected in a royal blue-top (EDTA) metal-free collection tube. This is important to avoid contamination from other sources that may lead to inaccurate test results. Also, note that serum is the preferred specimen type for monitoring nickel exposure, indicating alternative methods in some scenarios.
Limitations
This test specifically measures the concentration of nickel in whole blood and may not reflect all metals or contaminants from environmental exposure. The test has been developed and its performance characteristics have been determined by LabCorp; however, it has not been cleared or approved by the Food and Drug Administration, implying that its clinical utility should be considered along with other factors. The test may not be suitable for asymptomatic screening and should not be the sole basis for medical decisions.
