Parathyroid Hormone (PTH), Intact
Also known as: PTH Whole Molecule
Use
Diagnosis of parathyroid disease and other diseases of calcium homeostasis; monitoring patients undergoing renal dialysis
Special Instructions
This test may exhibit interference when the sample is collected from a person consuming a high dose of biotin. It's recommended to stop biotin consumption at least 72 hours prior to sample collection. Ensure samples are collected as EDTA plasma and transported at refrigerated temperature.
Limitations
Intact PTH assays provide a more accurate assessment of parathyroid condition including those with renal diseases. C-terminal or midmolecule assays may be less effective in patients with impaired renal function due to high concentrations of biologically inactive fragments.
