Plantain, English
Also known as: English Plantain
Use
The Plantain, English test measures specific IgE antibodies to the English plantain pollen allergen to aid in the diagnosis of allergic disorders. By identifying the presence and concentration of these antibodies, clinicians can assess the likelihood of allergic sensitization and evaluate potential clinical symptoms related to exposure to plantain allergens.
Special Instructions
The test requires a serum specimen collected in a red-top tube or gel-barrier tube. Stability is maintained for 14 days at room temperature or refrigerated, and for 3 months when frozen. Up to three freeze/thaw cycles are allowed. The test uses the Thermo Fisher ImmunoCAP® method.
Limitations
False positives or negatives may occur due to cross-reactivity with similar allergen components or due to technical issues with the assay. The results should be interpreted in the context of the patient's clinical history and symptoms. Some individuals with specific IgE antibodies might not exhibit clinical symptoms upon exposure. Additionally, the concentration of IgE does not necessarily correlate with the severity of the allergic reaction.
